Speakers emphasized that the government’s goodwill is crucial to immediately begin the khas land settlement program for the landless and to ensure good governance in the land sector. They made this demand at a roundtable discussion titled “Land Governance and Rights of Marginalized People: Challenges and Ways Forward” organized by the Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD) on Thursday, June 25, at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.

Speakers noted that despite the availability of khas land suitable for settlement, a large number of landless people remain deprived of land rights. They stressed the need for effective measures to resolve this situation and highlighted the importance of establishing good governance in land management.

The event was chaired by human rights activist, Nijera Kori coordinator, and ALRD chairperson Khushi Kabir. Panelists included academic and researcher Dr. Meghna Guhathakurta and Bazlur Rashid Firoz, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BASAD). The keynote paper was presented by ALRD’s Executive Director Shamsul Huda. read more
